SHAKIRA is a young girl that Martin chose to rescue from the streets. Every time he went to serve food at the Kisenyi slums, her food would be stolen by the gangs of older boys and she never defended herself as she was too scared. Martin took her in as she didn’t stand much chance of surviving for long on the streets.

Her history is unknown but she claims that she came to the slums with her mother, who then abandoned her.

She is improving at school and her top subjects are Luganda, English and reading. She struggles more with social studies, maths and the sciences.

She likes playing with fellow girls, she likes making dolls out of her clothes. She also likes organizing the girl’s room.
