Sponsor a child’s education in Africa and change a life for the better

C4C: A charity that helps Uganda’s orphaned children

Martin Male, an AIDS orphan, set up the charity in Uganda. Before establishing Chances for Children, he had spent six years living in Kampala’s slums and streets. Martin was given a chance in life when he was adopted by a local lady, affectionately known as ‘Mummy Jayne.’ With three daughters of her own, Mummy Jayne gave Martin a sense of belonging as well as the home and love he had been missing as a child. Martin was fortunate enough to have an education and finished senior school. Once he finished school, he felt compelled to head back to the slums and set up a grassroots charity that helps Uganda’s orphaned children. This grassroots charity became Chances for Children.

At the start of Martin’s journey, the children lived in a hut with goats, no education, no running water, no indoor toilets and one meal a day, if they were lucky. But, Martin supplied love and hope in abundance. In 2014 Gabrielle and Russell dived in headfirst to give these children a brighter future. They joined forces with Martin, and the Chances for Children journey began. Fundraising activities, including encouraging people to sponsor a child’s education in Africa, quickly became a central way in which Chances for Children raised funds to help support some of Uganda’s most vulnerable and impoverished children. Chances for Children now owns its own property, the children have three good meals a day, have access to medical care, as well as full-time education in a well-regarded school. Additionally, they have formed their own dance troop specialising in traditional Ugandan tribal dance and have a fantastic choir.

Sponsor a child’s education in Africa today

Gabrielle, Russell, and all the generous supporters, including those who have chosen to sponsor a child’s education in Africa, have helped build Chances for Children’s success on true grit, determination, and love. To help us continue caring for some of Uganda’s most vulnerable children and guide them towards a brighter future, we would be delighted for you to join us on this incredible journey by sponsoring a child’s education in Africa.  Most children have a sponsor or a group of sponsors who help us cover the expenses of running the home, local staff costs, water and electricity, food, sanitary towels, and toiletries. Currently, we have many children needing education sponsorship. Before 2020 we relied heavily on events to generate donations, which, due to the pandemic, has been very tough this past year. Most children are rising stars with aspirations to become pillars of society as doctors, nurses, DJs, pilots, accountants, and entrepreneurs.

When you sponsor a child’s education in Africa, you will help cover that child’s school fees and admissions, uniform, school supplies and stationery, school meals, examination fees, and school trips. Indeed, you will change that child’s life for the better, allowing them to realise their dream. It costs just €50 a month, the equivalent of €1.66 per day, and 100 per cent of the monies go directly to Chances for Children’s Ugandan centre. Sponsor a child’s education in Africa today, and your generosity will help Chances for Children carry on its great work in Uganda, helping children’s dreams come true.
